I recently blogged about Internet addiction (check it out!), but I didn’t fully grasp the way society as a whole needs the Internet until now. I came about an article that confirmed the existence of a new flavor of ice cream: Facebook flavor. Yes, it is now being sold in a shop called Valentino Ice Cream Shop located in Tisno, Croatia. The inventor of the flavor claimed that he came up with the idea when he saw his teenage daughter checking her Facebook account constantly.
Apparently the new flavor has gained the shop a lot of business, although the flavor is nothing more than vanilla ice cream with blue syrup on top. Customers are instead attracted by the Facebook logo and the uniqueness of a website- flavored food. Is the human obsession with the Internet and social networking really worth $1.32 per scoop though? Are we that obsessed with Facebook that we feel the need to eat it? Does it seem like we as a society are growing too attached to the Internet? If Facebook ice cream isn’t proof enough, I don’t know what is. There is a fine line between neat or innovative and over- the- top. Knowing where that boundary lies is the question of the day. (and future?) Not that Facebook ice cream isn’t neat, but it sure makes it seem like society is plunging deeper and deeper into the black hole called “cyberspace.”
