Giraffes on Facebook?

Here’s a riddle for you: 3:00 am, the doorbell rings and you wake up. Unexpected visitors. It’s your parents and they are there for breakfast. You have strawberry jam, honey, wine, bread and cheese. What is the first thing you open? Okay, maybe this riddle isn’t very original anymore due to its popularity on Facebook. Anyway, the two “correct” answers are either “your eyes” or “the door.” This has been widely spread through Facebook as a kind of a game; a user asks his or her Facebook friends the riddle and the friends that choose to play along send a message back to the user, telling him or her their guess. If that guess is wrong, however, the friend has to change his or her profile picture to one of a giraffe.

Yes, that is why you see a bunch of your friends changing their profile pictures to pictures of giraffes. Ridiculous? Maybe, but how many Internet memes actually make sense? Who would have guessed that a picture of a giraffe means that somebody made a wrong guess at a riddle? That’s the beauty of Internet culture; anything goes. While it’s almost impossible to keep up with all the latest Internet trends, you can’t help but wonder what’s next?
